What is the YouTube Comment Picker?

The YouTube Comment Picker chooses random winners from the comments on a YouTube video or Short. Paste the link, set rules such as a word the comment must contain, a minimum number of @mentions or one entry per person, and draw up to 10 winners from up to 100 top comments.

The picker loads up to 100 top-level comments in YouTube's Top order, the same list a logged-out viewer sees first. Before the draw it shows how many comments qualify under your rules, for example 18 of 22. If your video has more than 100 comments, only the loaded ones can win, so check the counter before you announce anything.

The draw runs in your browser with its cryptographic random number generator, and each qualifying comment has the same chance. One entry per person groups comments by the commenter's @handle, so a person who comments ten times still has one ticket. Copy result gives you the winners and their comments for your announcement.

You run the giveaway, not YouTube. YouTube's contest policy asks for official rules, free entry and a clear statement that YouTube is not a sponsor. The picker cannot check who is subscribed, because subscriber lists are not public.

What this tool can't do

  • It draws from up to 100 top-level comments. On a video with more comments, later comments cannot win, so it is not a fair draw for large giveaways.
  • Replies and live chat messages are not included.
  • It cannot check subscriptions, likes or follows; YouTube does not make subscriber lists public.
  • One entry per person matches @handles, so someone commenting from two channels gets two entries.
  • Up to 30 new lookups a day per visitor. For more, use the API.

If something goes wrong

Comments are turned off
Turn comments on in YouTube Studio, or run the giveaway on a video that allows them. Videos made for kids cannot have comments.
Fewer comments than my video has
The picker loads up to 100 top-level comments, and YouTube's total also counts replies. For a larger giveaway, use a method that includes every comment.
0 comments qualify
A keyword or @mention rule is too strict, or the word is spelled differently in the comments. Loosen one rule at a time.
Video not found
The video is private, removed or the link is mistyped. Check that it plays on YouTube while logged out.

YouTube Comment Picker FAQ

How do I pick a random comment on YouTube?

Paste your video link, load the comments, set your rules and press Pick a winner.

Is the draw really random?

Yes. It uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator, and every qualifying comment has the same chance.

How many comments can it draw from?

Up to 100 top-level comments per video. If your video has more, only the loaded comments can win, so check the counter before you announce a winner.

Can I pick only subscribers?

No. YouTube does not make subscriber lists public, so no tool can check it reliably. Ask the winner for proof.

Can I give each person only one entry?

Yes. Keep One entry per person on and each @handle counts once, however many times it commented.

Does it work for YouTube Shorts?

Yes, if comments are turned on. Paste the /shorts/ link.

How do I show the giveaway was fair?

Publish the rules before the draw, then share the result with the date, the rules and how many comments qualified.

Does it include replies or live chat?

No. Only top-level comments are in the draw.
