Top-level comments, up to 100.

What is the YouTube Comment Downloader?

The YouTube Comment Downloader loads the top comments of a public YouTube video or Short and lets you export them. Paste the video link to get up to 100 top-level comments with author, text, likes, reply count and posting time, then search them or save them as CSV, JSON or TXT.

The tool asks YouTube for the video's comments in Top order, the same order a logged-out visitor sees, and keeps the first 100 top-level comments. A pinned comment comes first. Replies are not included, but each comment shows how many it has, and the counter above the list shows how many comments loaded out of the video's total.

Exports are built in your browser. The CSV has one row per comment with author, handle, text, likes, replies, posted time and a pinned flag, and starts with a UTF-8 marker so Excel shows emoji and accents correctly. Cells that start with =, +, - or @ get a leading apostrophe so a spreadsheet does not run them as formulas. JSON keeps the same fields for code, and TXT puts one comment per paragraph.

YouTube gives comment times as relative text, such as 2 weeks ago, and rounds like counts above 1,000 (for example 8.4K), so the export keeps both as YouTube shows them. Exports contain public usernames and comments; if you store or analyze them, follow privacy rules such as the GDPR and delete what you no longer need.

Who uses it

  • Audience research

Read what viewers ask and complain about under competitors' videos, in a spreadsheet you can filter.

  • Feedback on your own videos

Pull the top comments into a sheet to tag questions, ideas and bug reports.

  • Sentiment and AI analysis

Feed the JSON or TXT into a script or an AI assistant to group comments by topic.

  • Campaign reports

Attach the top comments of a sponsored video to a client report as a CSV.

How to download YouTube comments

  1. Step 1

    Copy the video link

In the YouTube app, tap Share under the video and choose Copy link. On a Short, Share is on the right side of the screen.

  2. Step 2

Paste it and press Load comments

Up to 100 top comments load with names, likes and reply counts, plus the video's total comment count.

  3. Step 3

    Search or sort

Search for a word or a name, or sort the list by most liked.

  4. Step 4

    Export

Press CSV, JSON or TXT to save a file, or Copy all to paste the comments somewhere else.

What this tool can't do

  • It loads up to 100 top-level comments per video, in YouTube's Top order. Popular videos have far more, so treat the export as a sample.
  • Replies are not included, only the number of replies per comment.
  • Comment times are relative, such as 2 weeks ago, not exact dates.
  • Videos with comments turned off, and private or removed videos, return no comments.
  • Live chat messages are not included.
  • Up to 30 new lookups a day per visitor. For more, use the API.

If something goes wrong

Comments are turned off for this video
The creator disabled comments, which YouTube also does on every video made for kids. There is nothing to export.
Video not found
The video is private, removed or the link is mistyped. Check that it plays on YouTube while logged out.
Strange characters in Excel
The CSV includes the UTF-8 marker Excel looks for. If characters still look wrong, import it with Data > From Text/CSV and pick UTF-8.
Fewer comments than YouTube shows
Only top-level comments load, up to 100, while YouTube's total also counts replies.

For developers

Run it on many at once

The same data as JSON from one request. Use it on hundreds of links from your own code, a spreadsheet or n8n.

curl -X POST https://api.scrapeeverything.com/v1/youtube/comments \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"url":"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ"}'

Not a developer? Fill a Google Sheet or use the n8n workflow with the same API key.
