What the YouTube Comments Scraper API does
The YouTube Comments Scraper API returns top-level comments of a public video, sorted by top or newest: text, author, like count, reply count, relative publish time, link and the pinned and hearted flags, plus the exact total comment count. Send a video URL in any common format or the 11-character ID, and request up to 100 comments per call. The pinned comment always comes first. Like counts are YouTube's rounded figures (for example 8.4K), while comment_count is exact. Replies are not included. Use it to read audience reactions, collect product feedback or measure engagement on sponsored videos. Each request costs 1 credit.
What you get
Top-level fields of the response. Every field is typed and documented; nullable fields are null when the platform does not show them.
| Field | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
video_id | string | 11-char video ID |
sort | string | Applied sort: top or newest |
comment_count | integer | null | Total comments on the video (exact) |
comments_fetched | integer | Number of comments returned |
has_more | boolean | More comments are available beyond limit |
comments | array<object> (10 fields each) | Top-level comments, max limit |

Use cases
- Run sentiment analysis on comments under product reviews or sponsored videos.
- Collect feature requests and bug reports from comments on your own channel.
- Compare audience engagement across creators before a campaign.
Limitations: Unofficial API: not affiliated with or endorsed by the platform. Public data only, as a logged-out visitor sees it. Counts can be YouTube's rounded figures; comments are top-level only; transcripts exist only for videos with captions.
- Top-level comments only, about 20 per page; replies are not included. A pinned comment is listed first in both sorts.
- Like counts are YouTube's rounded figures (for example 8.4K); comment_count is exact.
- Returns 404 with code COMMENTS_DISABLED when comments are turned off, and NOT_FOUND when the video does not exist.
Questions
Are replies included?
No. The endpoint returns top-level comments only; reply_count shows how many replies each comment has.
Can I sort by newest?
Yes. Send sort: newest. The default is top. A pinned comment is listed first in both sorts.
What if comments are turned off?
You get 404 with code COMMENTS_DISABLED. If the video does not exist, the code is NOT_FOUND.
How much does the YouTube Comments Scraper API cost?
1 credit per successful request. Credits are bought in one-time packs and never expire. New accounts get 100 free credits. No payment details needed.
Am I charged for failed requests?
No. If the platform blocks the request, it times out or something fails on our side, the credits are refunded automatically. A definitive answer such as "this account does not exist" is billed because the lookup completed.
Can I re-read a result without paying again?
Yes. Send cache_days (1 to 14) and a repeat request for the same target within that window is served from your cache for free.
