What is the YouTube Playlist Length Calculator?

The YouTube Playlist Length Calculator adds up the durations of the videos in a YouTube playlist. Paste the playlist link and you get the total length, the average video length and how long it takes at 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x and 2x speed, plus a list of up to 100 videos with their durations.

YouTube shows how many videos a playlist has, but not how long it runs. The calculator loads the public playlist page as a logged-out visitor, reads each video's duration and adds them up. Videos without a length, such as live streams and upcoming premieres, are counted separately so they do not skew the total.

It reads the first 100 videos of a playlist. When a playlist has more, the page says so and the total covers those 100 only. The From and To boxes total part of the list, for example the lessons you have left. YouTube also hides deleted and private videos inside playlists, so fewer videos can appear than the number in the playlist header.

Who uses it

  • Students and course takers

Plan how many evenings a lecture series takes, at normal speed or at 1.5x.

  • Teachers and course builders

Check that a playlist of lessons fits a semester, a workshop or a training day.

  • Music and podcast playlists

Know whether a playlist lasts a long drive, a workout or a party.

How we calculate it

Total = sum of the video lengths. Average = total / videos with a length. Time at a speed = total / speed.

For example, a playlist of 30 videos that average 12 minutes each runs 6 hours. At 1.5x it takes 4 hours, and at 2x it takes 3 hours. These are illustrative numbers, not a real playlist.

  • Only the first 100 videos of a playlist are counted.
  • Videos YouTube hides, such as deleted or private ones, are not in the list.
  • Live streams and upcoming premieres have no fixed length and are left out of the total.
  • Real viewing time is longer if you pause, rewind or watch ads.

How to see the length of a YouTube playlist

  1. Step 1

    Copy the playlist link

On YouTube, open the playlist and use Share > Copy link. A link to a video you opened from the playlist also works, as long as it contains list=.

  2. Step 2

Paste it and press Calculate length

You get the total length, the number of videos counted and the average length.

  3. Step 3

    Check faster speeds

Four boxes show how long the same videos take at 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x and 2x.

  4. Step 4

    Total part of the list

Set From video and To video to count only the videos you still have to watch, then export the list as CSV if you need it.

  • youtube.com/watch?v=<id>&list=<id>
  • <playlist ID, such as PL...>

What this tool can't do

  • It counts the first 100 videos only. Longer playlists show the total for those 100.
  • Watch Later, Liked videos and private playlists do not work because they are not public.
  • Videos YouTube hides, such as deleted or private ones, are not counted.
  • Live streams and upcoming premieres have no length and are left out of the total.
  • Up to 30 new lookups a day per visitor. For more, use the API.

If something goes wrong

The link has no list= playlist parameter
You pasted a single video. Open the playlist itself and copy its link, or copy the link of a video you opened from the playlist.
Playlist not found or private
Only public and unlisted playlists work. Watch Later and Liked videos are private by design.
The total looks short
The playlist may have more than 100 videos, or contain hidden, deleted or live items that have no length.

YouTube Playlist Length Calculator FAQ

How do I see the total length of a YouTube playlist?

YouTube does not show it. Paste the playlist link here to get the total, the average and the time at faster speeds.

How long is a playlist at 1.5x or 2x speed?

Divide the total by the speed: a 10-hour playlist takes 6 h 40 min at 1.5x and 5 hours at 2x. The result shows each speed for you.

Does it work with Watch Later or Liked videos?

No. Those playlists are private. Copy the videos into a public or unlisted playlist first.

Does it work with unlisted playlists?

Usually yes, because anyone with the link can open them. Private playlists do not work.

Is there a size limit?

The free tool reads the first 100 videos of a playlist. For longer playlists it shows the total for those 100 and tells you the playlist has more.

Why is the video count different from YouTube's?

YouTube hides deleted and private videos inside playlists, and live or upcoming videos have no length yet, so they are left out of the total.

Can I calculate only part of a playlist?

Yes. Set From video and To video, for example 12 to 40, and the total, average and speed times update for that range.
