How to download a Twitter video

Step 1
Copy the post link
In the X app, tap the Share icon under the post and choose Copy link. On a computer, copy the post address from the browser bar.
Step 2
Paste it and press Get video
Paste the link into the box above. The post loads with its video, text, date and counts.
Step 3
Press Download video
The MP4 saves to your Downloads folder. A post with several videos shows one button per video: Video 1, Video 2 and so on.
Step 4
Move it to your gallery
On iPhone, open Files > Downloads, tap the video, then Share > Save Video. On Android, the file sits in Downloads and most gallery apps list it.

What is the Twitter Video Downloader?

The Twitter Video Downloader is a free web tool that turns a link to a public X (Twitter) post into the MP4 video file attached to it. You paste the post link, the tool looks the post up as a logged-out visitor, and you get the video with a download button, plus the post's text, date and engagement counts.

X keeps each uploaded video as several MP4 files at different bitrates, plus a streaming playlist that a browser can't save as one file. The tool reads the post's media list, skips the playlist and picks the MP4 with the highest bitrate, which is the sharpest copy X has. The resolution depends on the upload: the 2021 Perseverance landing video, for example, tops out at 1280 x 720.

Nothing is re-encoded or compressed again. The file streams from X's video servers through our media proxy to your browser and is saved with the author and post ID in its name, such as x-NASAPersevere-1363929492138254340-1.mp4.

A post can carry up to four media items, and each one gets its own button. When a post quotes another post, the video usually belongs to the quoted post, so open that post and paste its own link.

What this tool can't do

Posts from protected accounts, deleted posts and posts X marks as sensitive can't be opened, because X hides them from logged-out visitors.
Spaces recordings, live broadcasts and videos sent in direct messages aren't supported.
A video inside a quoted post isn't part of the outer post. Paste the quoted post's own link to get it.
It saves the MP4 as X serves it. It doesn't convert to MP3 or GIF, and it can't make a video sharper than X's copy.
Up to 30 new lookups a day per visitor. For more, use the API.

If something goes wrong

Nothing is found for the link: Check that the post is still up and the account isn't protected, then copy the link again with Share > Copy link.
The post loads but has no video: The video is probably in a quoted post or a link preview card. Open that post and paste its own link.
The link is rejected: The address must contain /status/ followed by the post number. Links from other apps may need to be opened on X first.
X is busy: X sometimes limits logged-out lookups. Wait a minute and press Get video again.

Twitter Video Downloader FAQ

Do x.com links work, or only twitter.com links?

Both work. The tool reads the post number from x.com, twitter.com and mobile.twitter.com links, and from the x.com/i/web/status links some apps share.

What quality is the downloaded video?

You get the MP4 with the highest bitrate X keeps for that post. The tool doesn't upscale or re-encode it, so it matches what X itself plays.

How do I save a Twitter video on iPhone?

Copy the post link in the X app, paste it here in Safari and tap Download video. Then open Files > Downloads, tap the video and choose Share > Save Video to add it to Photos.

Can I download videos from protected accounts?

No. Protected posts are visible only to approved followers who are logged in, and the tool only sees what X shows to logged-out visitors.

The post has more than one video. Can I get all of them?

Yes. A post can hold up to four photos, videos or GIFs, and each one gets its own download button.

Why is the view count missing?

X started counting views in December 2022, so older posts have no view count. Replies, reposts, likes and bookmarks still show.

Is it legal to download videos from X?

Saving a public video to watch later is common, but the video belongs to whoever made it. Ask before you repost it, edit it or use it commercially. Read our copyright policy.
