How to download Instagram photos

Step 1
Copy the post link
In the app, tap the paper-plane icon under the post and choose Copy link. In a browser, copy the address that contains /p/.
Step 2
Paste and press Get photos
The first slide appears with the caption, likes and posting date.
Step 3
Go through the slides
Use the arrows or tap a thumbnail in the All items strip. The counter in the corner shows which slide you are on, for example 3 / 10.
Step 4
Save the slides you want
Press JPG under any thumbnail, or Download item for the slide on screen. Each file name ends with its slide number.

What is the Instagram Photo Downloader?

The Instagram Photo Downloader saves the photos of a public Instagram post as JPG files from the post's link. For a carousel, which the result labels an album, it lists every slide in order, photos and videos alike, so you can save one slide or all of them instead of only the first image.

Instagram keeps several sizes of each photo. The tool picks the largest one Instagram serves to logged-out visitors, which for most feed photos is 1080 pixels wide, and shows the width and height of the slide on screen.

Carousels can hold up to 20 slides and can mix photos and videos. In the result, arrows and dots move between slides, and the All items strip under the caption gives each slide its own button: JPG for a photo, MP4 for a video.

The photos are Instagram's own JPG files, passed to you as they are. Converting them to PNG later won't add detail.

What this tool can't do

There is no single ZIP of all slides. Each slide has its own button.
Photos come at the sizes Instagram serves without a login; nothing is upscaled.
Stories, highlights and posts from private accounts can't be loaded.
It needs a post link. For an account's picture, use the Instagram Profile Picture Downloader.

If something goes wrong

Only one image shows: Look for the All items strip under the caption. If there is none, the post has a single photo.
Post not found: The post was deleted or archived, or the link is incomplete. Copy it again from the Share menu.
It's a profile link: The tool needs a post link with /p/ in it, not a link to an account.
Private account: Photos from private accounts are hidden from logged-out visitors, so they can't be loaded.
An image link stopped working: Instagram's image links are signed and expire within days. Paste the post link again.

Can I download all photos from an Instagram carousel?

Yes. Every slide is listed in the All items strip with its own button, so you can save each one. There is no single ZIP file.

What size are the photos?

The largest size Instagram serves to logged-out visitors, usually 1080 pixels wide. The width and height of the slide on screen are shown before you save.

Can I save Instagram photos as PNG?

Instagram stores feed photos as JPG, so that is what you get. Converting to PNG makes the file bigger without adding detail.

Does it save the videos in a carousel too?

Will the owner know I saved their photo?

No. The lookup isn't tied to an Instagram account, and nothing is sent to the owner.

Can I repost a photo I downloaded?

Only with permission. The photographer keeps the copyright, so ask before reposting, editing or using it in ads, and credit them. Read our copyright policy.
