How to download an Instagram reel

  1. Step 1

    Copy the reel link

    Open the reel in the Instagram app, tap the paper-plane icon on the right side and choose Copy link.

  2. Step 2

    Paste it and press Download reel

    Links with /reel/ or /reels/ both work, and the ?igsh= tracking part at the end is removed for you.

  3. Step 3

    Check the details

    Play the preview and look at the Duration, Resolution and Audio lines before you save.

  4. Step 4

    Save the MP4 or the cover

    Press Download video for the MP4 or Cover for the JPG. On Android the file goes to Downloads; on iPhone, open it from Safari's downloads and tap Save Video.

What is the Instagram Reels Downloader?

The Instagram Reels Downloader saves a public reel as an MP4 file from its link. Next to the video it shows the details Instagram stores with every reel: the cover image, the length, the width and height, whether it has sound, and the song or original audio it uses, plus views, likes, comments and the posting time.

Reels are vertical videos, and the result prints the width and height Instagram reports for each one, for example 720 × 1280. The MP4 is the same file the preview player loads, so what you see and hear in the preview is what you save.

The Audio line comes from the label Instagram keeps with the reel. A track from Instagram's music library shows its title and artist, a creator's own sound shows as original audio with the account name, and a silent reel shows No sound. Instagram signs the video link, and the result shows the exact time it expires, usually a few days after the lookup. Save the file before then, or paste the reel again later for a new link.

What this tool can't do

  • Photo and album posts are not reels and return 'not a reel'. Use the photo or video downloader for those.
  • There is no audio-only file. The tool names the song but doesn't make MP3s.
  • Private accounts, stories and age-restricted reels can't be loaded.
  • Video links expire, usually within a few days; the exact time is in the result.
  • Up to 30 new lookups a day per visitor. For more, use the API.

If something goes wrong

Not a reel
The link points to a photo or an album. Use the Instagram Photo Downloader, or the video downloader for videos inside an album.
Private or age-restricted reel
Both need a login on Instagram, so the tool can't open them. Only reels that play in a private browser window without logging in work.
Reel not found
The reel was deleted or archived, or part of the link is missing. Copy the link again from the Share menu.
The MP4 has no sound
Check the Audio line. If it says No sound, the reel was posted without an audio track.
The video link expired
Paste the reel link again. Each lookup gets a fresh link from Instagram.

How do I save an Instagram reel to my phone?

Copy the reel link from the paper-plane menu, paste it above, press Download reel and then Download video. On iPhone, open the file from Safari's downloads and tap Save Video to add it to Photos.

Will the downloaded reel have sound?

The Audio line tells you whether the reel has sound. The MP4 is the same file the preview plays, so if you hear sound in the preview, the file has it.

Can I download only the song from a reel?

No. The result names the song and artist, but the tool doesn't make audio files. The Instagram Reel Song Finder adds search links to music apps. Instagram Reel Song Finder.

Can I save the reel's cover image?

Yes. Press Cover to download the cover as a JPG.

Can I download every reel from an account?

Not in one go. The Instagram Reels Viewer lists an account's 12 latest reels, and you can open and save them one by one. Instagram Reels Viewer.

Can I download reels from a private account?

No. Private reels are hidden from logged-out visitors, so the tool can't see them.

Is it okay to repost a reel I downloaded?

Only with the creator's permission and with credit. Instagram's Remix feature is the in-app way to build on someone else's reel. Read our copyright policy.
