What is the Instagram Reel Song Finder?

The Instagram Reel Song Finder reads the audio label Instagram attaches to a reel and shows the song title and artist. You paste a public reel link; it returns the track name, the artist, a flag for original audio and one-click searches on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and SoundCloud.

When a creator adds music from Instagram's library, the reel stores the track's title and artist, the same label you see at the bottom of the reel in the app. The tool reads that label from the public reel page. It doesn't listen to the audio, so it answers in seconds, but it can only name what the creator tagged.

If the creator used their own sound, Instagram labels it original audio with the account name and stores no song title, even when a song plays in the background. For those reels, play the reel next to a music recognition app such as Shazam, or check the caption and comments.

The search buttons only pre-fill a search for the title and artist on each music service. There is no audio file to save here.

Who uses it

  • Finding a song you heard

Get the name of a track from a reel a friend sent, without searching through the app.

  • Creators picking audio

Check which song a popular reel used before you make your own version in the app.

  • DJs and playlist curators

Name tracks from dance and event reels to add them to a set or playlist.

What this tool can't do

  • It names only music the creator tagged. A song inside original audio can't be identified.
  • It gives no audio or MP3 file.
  • A sped-up, slowed or remixed version shows the tag of the version picked, which can differ from the original song.
  • Photo posts, stories and private reels don't work.
  • Up to 30 new lookups a day per visitor. For more, use the API.

If something goes wrong

It says original audio
The creator used their own sound, so no song is tagged. Try a music recognition app while the reel plays, or check the caption.
Not a reel
The link is a photo or album post, which has no reel audio. Use a reel link.
No song shown
The reel may have no sound or no tagged audio. Open it on Instagram to check.
Private or deleted reel
Only reels that play without logging in can be read. Check that the link opens in a private browser window.

Instagram Reel Song Finder FAQ

How does the song finder know the song?

It reads the audio label Instagram attached to the reel, the same one shown at the bottom of the reel in the app. It doesn't record or analyze the sound.

Why does it say original audio?

The creator posted their own sound instead of picking a track from Instagram's music library, so no song name is stored. A music recognition app may still name a song playing in it.

Can I download the song as an MP3?

No. You get the title and artist to find the song on a music service. The tool creates no audio files.

Why is the song different from what I hear?

Some creators pick a sped-up, slowed or remixed version, and the label names the version they picked. Search the title and artist to find the exact one.

Does it work for photo posts with music?

No. Photo and carousel posts return 'not a reel', even when they have music. Video posts and reels work.

Do I need the Instagram app?

No. Paste the link in any browser; the label is read from the public reel page.
