How to view an Instagram profile without an account

  1. Step 1

    Find the username

It's the name after @ on the profile, for example natgeo. A profile link copied from a browser works too.

  2. Step 2

    Press View profile

The header loads first: photo, name, category, bio, link and the posts, followers and following counts.

  3. Step 3

    Open a post

Tap any of the 12 newest posts to see it larger with its caption and date. Videos load when you press Play video.

What is the Instagram Profile Viewer?

The Instagram Profile Viewer shows a public Instagram account the way a logged-out visitor sees it: profile photo, name, bio, link, category, post and follower counts, and the 12 newest posts in a grid. You enter a username or profile link, and nothing is linked to your own Instagram account.

Anonymous here means the lookup runs on our servers as a logged-out visitor, so it isn't tied to you or to any Instagram account. Instagram doesn't show people a list of who viewed their profile anyway; that kind of list exists only for stories.

Stories are exactly what this viewer can't show. Instagram plays stories and highlights only for logged-in users, so you get the number of highlights an account has but not their content. Private posts, follower lists and the people who liked a post are not public either.

The grid holds the 12 newest posts. Tap a post to see it larger with its caption and date; for a video, press Play video to load it. Instagram shares like and comment counts with logged-out visitors for some accounts only, so many business and creator profiles show none. Captions here are cut at 300 characters and lose their line breaks.

Who uses it

  • Brands vetting creators

Check a creator's bio, follower count and recent posts before a first message.

  • Confirming an official account

Compare the verified badge, follower count and link to spot a copycat before you reply or pay.

  • Quick competitor checks

See what a rival posted this week without following it from your brand account.

  • People without Instagram

Look at a restaurant's or venue's latest posts without creating an account.

What this tool can't do

  • Stories and highlight content are not shown. Highlights appear only as a count.
  • Private accounts show only the profile header; their posts stay hidden.
  • Follower and following lists and the list of who liked a post are not public.
  • Only the 12 newest posts are shown; older posts are not loaded.
  • Up to 30 new lookups a day per visitor. For more, use the API.

If something goes wrong

User not found
Check the spelling. The account may have changed its username or been deleted.
This account is private
Only the header is public. Posts of a private account are visible only to approved followers in the app.
No likes or comments on posts
Instagram hides these counts from logged-out visitors on many business and creator accounts, and owners can hide likes too. For engagement numbers, use the engagement rate calculator, which reads reels.
No posts returned
The account may have no posts yet, or Instagram didn't send them this time. Try again in a minute.

Use it responsibly

The tool shows only what Instagram shows to anyone who isn't logged in. Use what you see for research, planning and your own records, and respect people's privacy. Is this your account? Request removal.

Instagram Profile Viewer FAQ

Will someone know I viewed their Instagram profile?

Can I watch stories or highlights with this viewer?

No. Instagram plays stories and highlights only for logged-in users, so the viewer can't show them. It shows how many highlights an account has.

Can I view a private Instagram account?

No. You see the profile header Instagram shows everyone, such as the name and counts. The posts stay hidden.

Why do I only see 12 posts?

The viewer shows the 12 newest posts, the first page Instagram gives logged-out visitors. The API can return up to 60 recent posts. Instagram posts API.

Why don't the counts match the app exactly?

Counts change all the time, and both the app and the viewer shorten large numbers. On a computer, hover over a count to see the exact figure at the moment you looked.

How do I save the profile photo?

Use the Instagram Profile Picture Downloader. It saves the picture at the largest size Instagram shows logged-out visitors and prints its pixel size. Instagram Profile Picture Downloader.
