What is the Twitter Profile Picture Downloader?

The Twitter Profile Picture Downloader loads the profile picture of an X (Twitter) account from its username, including protected accounts. You enter the @handle and get the image at the largest size X keeps, up to 400 x 400 pixels, with its measured size, a download button and previews of how it looks when shown small.

Next to posts, X shows profile pictures as 48-pixel thumbnails whose image links end in _normal. The tool drops that suffix and requests the stored version, which X caps at 400 x 400 pixels. If the owner uploaded something smaller, that smaller file is the largest that exists, and the size printed under the picture tells you so.

Profile pictures stay public when an account protects its posts, so the tool works for protected accounts too. Only the current picture is available: once the owner changes it, X stops serving the old one.

Who uses it

  • Recovering your own picture

Get back the profile photo you uploaded years ago when the original is gone from your phone.

  • Spotting impersonators

Run a reverse image search on a profile picture to find copies used by fake accounts.

  • Event and design teams

Collect speaker or partner pictures for a program or slide, with their permission.

What this tool can't do

  • X keeps profile pictures at up to 400 x 400 pixels, so no larger file exists.
  • Only the current picture is available. Earlier pictures disappear when the owner changes them.
  • The header banner isn't included.
  • Suspended and deleted accounts return nothing.
  • Up to 30 new lookups a day per visitor. For more, use the API.

If something goes wrong

The picture is smaller than 400 x 400
The owner uploaded a smaller image. X stores it as it was, so that is the largest version available.
User not found
Check the handle. If the account was renamed, search X for its new @handle.
A grey silhouette appears
The account has no profile picture set, so X serves its default image.

Twitter Profile Picture Downloader FAQ

What size is a Twitter profile picture?

X stores profile pictures at up to 400 x 400 pixels and shows smaller copies, down to 48 x 48, next to posts. The tool measures the file it loads and shows its exact size.

Does it work for protected accounts?

Yes. A protected account hides its posts, but its profile picture stays public, so you can still see and save it.

Can I get the header banner too?

Not with this tool, which saves the profile picture only. The Twitter Viewer shows the banner at the top of the profile. Twitter Viewer.

Does it work with x.com profile links?

Yes. Paste x.com/username or twitter.com/username, or type the @handle on its own.

Will the person know I saved their picture?

No. X doesn't notify anyone when their profile is looked up or their picture is opened.

Can I use someone else's profile picture?

Only for personal reference or with permission. Using another person's photo as your own, or to pose as them, breaks X's rules and can break the law.
