What is the Pinterest Image Downloader?

The Pinterest Image Downloader saves the picture from a public Pinterest pin in its original size. You paste a pin link or pin.it short link and get the image file Pinterest keeps from the upload, together with the pin's title, description, board, pinner and the website it came from.

Pinterest serves every image in several widths: 236 pixels for the grid, 474 and 736 for close-ups, plus the original upload. Saving from the feed usually gets you one of the smaller copies. The tool asks for the original first and falls back to the next largest copy only when Pinterest has no original.

Many pins are re-shares of someone else's photo. The source link next to the image points to the page the pin was saved from, which is the best place to find the photographer or check how the image may be used.

Who uses it

  • Mood boards and planning

Collect sharp copies of decor, wedding or outfit ideas for a board you print or share offline.

  • Finding the original photographer

Use the source link and the original file for a reverse image search before you ask for permission.

  • Phone wallpapers

Tall pins often fit a phone screen, and the original keeps detail that the feed copy loses.

What this tool can't do

  • It can't make an image larger than the original upload. Small uploads stay small.
  • Carousel pins with several images return the first image only.
  • Pins on secret boards and deleted pins can't be loaded.
  • Some multi-page Idea Pins return only their cover.
  • Up to 30 new lookups a day per visitor. For more, use the API.

If something goes wrong

The image is smaller than expected
Pinterest only has what the pinner uploaded. Follow the source link to look for a larger copy.
Only one image from a carousel
Carousels aren't split yet. Open the source link to find the other images.
A pin.it link doesn't load
Open it in a browser and copy the full pinterest.com/pin/ address instead.
