What the TikTok Transcript API does
The TikTok Transcript API returns the timestamped transcript of a TikTok video from its captions, whether added by the creator or generated automatically. Send a video URL or ID and get the language, whether the captions are auto-generated, the other available languages, every segment with start time and the full text joined into one string. It is a quick way to know what a video says without watching it: summarize videos with an LLM, search them by keyword, detect brand mentions or translate them. The response has the same shape as the YouTube Transcript API, so one pipeline handles both platforms. Each request costs 1 credit, regardless of video length.

Limitations: Unofficial API: not affiliated with or endorsed by the platform. Public data only, as a logged-out visitor sees it. The videos endpoint returns the newest publicly visible videos (up to 12); private, removed or region-restricted videos are missing.
- Only videos with captions have a transcript. Others, and languages not offered, return 404 with code NO_TRANSCRIPT.
- Times are in seconds, rounded to 2 decimals.
- Short share links (vm.tiktok.com, vt.tiktok.com, tiktok.com/t/...) are resolved to the video first. Send id as a string.
Questions
What if the video has no captions?
Only videos with captions have a transcript. Videos without captions, and languages the video does not offer, return 404 with code NO_TRANSCRIPT.
Is this speech-to-text?
No. It reads the video's existing captions (creator-added or TikTok's automatic ones). It does not transcribe the audio itself.
Can I choose the language?
Yes. Pass lang with one of the codes listed in available_languages. Use the full video URL; short share links (vm.tiktok.com) are not supported.
How much does the TikTok Transcript API cost?
1 credit per successful request. Credits are bought in one-time packs and never expire. New accounts get 100 free credits. No payment details needed.
Am I charged for failed requests?
No. If the platform blocks the request, it times out or something fails on our side, the credits are refunded automatically. A definitive answer such as "this account does not exist" is billed because the lookup completed.
Can I re-read a result without paying again?
Yes. Send cache_days (1 to 14) and a repeat request for the same target within that window is served from your cache for free.
