How to download a video from a Telegram post

  1. Step 1

    Copy the post link

    In Telegram, right-click the post on desktop or long-press it on a phone, then choose Copy Post Link or Copy Link.

  2. Step 2

    Paste it and press Get video

    The post loads with the channel name, caption, views and date.

  3. Step 3

    Press Download video

    The MP4 saves to your Downloads folder. Photos in the post get their own buttons.

What is the Telegram Video Downloader?

The Telegram Video Downloader saves the video from a post in a public Telegram channel. You paste the post's t.me link and get the video as an MP4 file, any photos in the same post, and the caption, view count and date, as long as Telegram includes the file in its public web preview.

Every post in a public channel has a web version at t.me/ plus the channel name and post number. The tool loads that page, the same embed Telegram shows on other websites, and takes the video file it links to. Telegram serves these files as MP4, and photos as JPG.

Large videos are the main gap. On the web, Telegram replaces them with a thumbnail and a note that the media is too big, so there is no file to fetch; the result then shows the thumbnail only, and the post opens in the Telegram app. Private channels, groups and chats are out of reach because they have no web version.

What this tool can't do

  • Only posts in public channels work. Private channel links (t.me/c/...), groups and personal chats can't be opened.
  • Videos too big for Telegram's web preview have no file to save. Open them in the Telegram app.
  • Documents, voice messages and polls aren't downloaded.
  • Up to 30 new lookups a day per visitor. For more, use the API.

If something goes wrong

Only a thumbnail appears
The video is too large for Telegram's web preview. Open the post in the Telegram app to watch or save it.
Invalid Telegram post link
The link needs the channel name and post number, like t.me/durov/551. Links to a whole channel belong in the Telegram Channel Viewer.
A t.me/c/ link fails
That format belongs to private channels, which have no public preview.
Post not found
The post was deleted or the number is wrong. Copy the link again from the post.

Which Telegram videos can I download?

Videos in public channel posts that Telegram plays on its website. If the post opens at t.me in a browser and the video plays, the tool can save it.

Why do I only get a thumbnail?

Telegram leaves large files out of its web preview and shows a thumbnail with a note that the media is too big. Those videos open only in the Telegram app.

Can I download from private channels, groups or chats?

No. Only public channels have web previews, and the tool doesn't log in to Telegram.

Do I need the Telegram app?

No. Paste the post link in any browser; no Telegram account is used.

What format is the video?

MP4, the format Telegram's web player uses. Photos in the post save as JPG.

Can I paste a channel link instead of a post link?
