How to view a Telegram channel without the app

  1. Step 1

    Find the channel's username

    It is the name after t.me/ in the channel link, or the @username on the channel's info page in Telegram.

  2. Step 2

    Press View channel

    The channel loads with its photo, description, subscriber count and the 12 newest posts.

  3. Step 3

    Open photos and videos

    Tap a photo or video to view it full screen. Files can be saved from there, and Open goes to the post on t.me.

What is the Telegram Channel Viewer?

The Telegram Channel Viewer shows a public Telegram channel in your browser without the app or an account. You enter the channel's username or t.me link and get its name, photo, description and subscriber count, followed by the 12 latest posts with their text, photos, videos, view counts and dates.

Telegram publishes a web preview for every public channel at t.me/s/ followed by the channel name. The viewer reads that preview, so it sees what Telegram shows anyone on the web: the channel header with its counters and the newest messages. Groups, bots and personal accounts have no such preview, which is why only channels work.

Numbers arrive rounded the way Telegram prints them, such as 10.2M subscribers or 1.5M views, so treat them as close estimates. Some videos are too large for the web preview; those posts show a thumbnail and a link to open the post in Telegram instead of a playable file.

What this tool can't do

  • It works for public channels only. Private channels, groups, bots and personal accounts can't be viewed.
  • It shows the 12 latest posts, not the full history.
  • Videos too large for Telegram's web preview can't be played or saved here.
  • Polls, voice messages and files appear as posts without their attachment.

If something goes wrong

Not a public channel
The username belongs to a group, bot or person, or the channel has no web preview. Only public channels can be read.
An invite link doesn't work
Links that start with t.me/+ or t.me/joinchat are invitations to private chats. Ask for the channel's public @username.
A video shows only a thumbnail
Telegram left the file out of the web preview because of its size. Open the post in the Telegram app to watch it.

Do I need Telegram installed?

No. The viewer works in any browser and needs no Telegram account.

Will the channel know I viewed it?

No. Telegram counts views but never shows who viewed a post.

Can I read private channels or groups?

No. Private channels and groups have no public web preview, so there is nothing to show.

Why is the subscriber count rounded?

Telegram's web preview prints counts like 10.2M rather than exact numbers, and that is the figure the viewer receives.

How many posts can I see?

The 12 newest. Developers can get up to 100 per request from the Telegram posts API. Telegram posts API.

Can I save videos from the channel?

Yes, when the web preview includes the file. Open the video and press Download video, or paste the post link into the Telegram Video Downloader. Telegram Video Downloader.
