What is the TikTok Engagement Rate Calculator?

The TikTok Engagement Rate Calculator is a free tool that measures how much the viewers of one TikTok video interacted with it. Paste the video link and it divides likes, comments and shares by plays, then shows the like, comment, share and save rates and the exact counts behind them. It rates a single video, not a whole account.

The counts come from the video's public embed data, read as a logged-out visitor at the moment you check: plays, likes, comments, shares and saves. The TikTok app rounds these numbers; the calculator uses the exact values, so rounding doesn't skew the rate.

Why one video and not an account? TikTok's public profile data lists each recent video's plays but not its likes, comments or shares, so an account-wide rate built from public data would be a guess. Checking the videos that matter, such as a sponsored post and a few of the creator's recent ones, gives you real numbers to compare.

Who uses it

  • Brands checking sponsored posts

Measure how a paid video performed next to the creator's other recent videos before you renew a deal.

  • Creators

See which of your videos got people to comment and share, not just watch.

  • Agencies and analysts

Put exact per-video rates in a campaign report instead of the app's rounded numbers.

  • Researchers and journalists

Compare how videos on the same trend performed, using one formula for all of them.

How we calculate it

Engagement rate = (likes + comments + shares) ÷ plays × 100

For example, a video with 200,000 plays, 16,000 likes, 400 comments and 1,600 shares has (16,000 + 400 + 1,600) ÷ 200,000 × 100 = 9% engagement, which the guide rates as good. Its like rate is 8%, its comment rate 0.2% and its share rate 0.8%. If it also has 2,000 saves, the save rate of 1% is shown on its own.

  • Plays count every view, including replays by the same person, so the rate is per play, not per unique viewer.
  • Saves have their own rate and stay out of the main score. Add the save rate yourself if your report counts saves.
  • The rating guide (under 3% low, 3-6% average, 6-10% good, above 10% very high) is a rough rule for single videos. Small accounts often score higher than large ones.
  • Counts keep moving. A video checked an hour after posting can look very different a week later.
  • Rates that divide by followers use a different formula and can't be compared with this one.

How to calculate a TikTok video's engagement rate

  1. Step 1

    Copy the video link

In the app, tap Share, then Copy link. On tiktok.com, copy the address of the video page.

  2. Step 2

    Paste it and press Calculate

Short links from the app work. The video's cover, caption and posting date appear above the result.

  3. Step 3

Read the rate and the breakdown

The large number is the engagement rate with a rating. Below it are like, comment, share and save rates, each with its exact count.

  4. Step 4

    Compare a few videos

Check the creator's other recent videos the same way, since one viral video can differ a lot from the rest.

What this tool can't do

  • It rates one video per lookup. Account averages would need each video's likes, which TikTok's public profile data doesn't include.
  • Watch time, completion rate, traffic sources and audience data are private to the creator in TikTok Studio.
  • Private, friends-only and deleted videos can't be checked.
  • Photo slideshows aren't supported.
  • Up to 30 new lookups a day per visitor. For more, use the API.

TikTok Engagement Rate Calculator FAQ

How is TikTok engagement rate calculated here?

(Likes + comments + shares) ÷ plays × 100, using TikTok's public counts at the moment you check. The like, comment, share and save rates are each count ÷ plays.

Can I calculate the engagement rate of a whole TikTok account?

Not with this tool. TikTok's public profile data has plays but no likes or comments per video, so the calculator rates one video at a time. Check a creator's recent videos one by one and compare them.

What is a good engagement rate for a TikTok video?

As a rough guide for single videos, under 3% is low, 3-6% average, 6-10% good and above 10% very high. Smaller accounts often score higher, so compare videos from accounts of similar size.

Why are saves not in the main rate?

Saves get their own rate so you can see them, while the main score sticks to likes, comments and shares. If your report counts saves, add the save rate to the engagement rate.

Why does another calculator give a different number?

Tools use different formulas: some divide by followers instead of plays, some add saves, and some average many videos. Compare numbers only when they use the same formula.

Can I track a video's engagement over time?

Not in the free tool, which shows the counts at the moment of the lookup. Check again later, or call the API on a schedule to log the numbers.
