What is the TikTok Thumbnail Downloader?

The TikTok Thumbnail Downloader is a free web tool that saves the cover image of a TikTok video from its link. You get two files: the still cover TikTok shows in profile grids, as a JPG, and the animated cover, a short moving preview saved as WebP. The caption, creator and an MP4 link are shown alongside.

Every TikTok video has a cover frame, picked by the creator or by TikTok, and most also have an animated cover that TikTok plays as a short loop on the web. The tool reads both addresses from the video's public embed data as a logged-out visitor and passes the files to you unchanged.

Covers are vertical, 9:16 like the video, and are often smaller than the video itself. The tool doesn't resize or upscale them. Any text the creator placed on the cover frame is part of the image and stays.

What this tool can't do

Covers come at the size TikTok serves; they aren't upscaled.
Videos without an animated cover give the still image only.
One video per link. For the covers of an account's 12 newest videos, open it in the TikTok Profile Viewer.
Photo slideshows and private or deleted videos aren't supported.
Up to 30 new lookups a day per visitor. For more, use the API.

If something goes wrong

Only one cover appears: That video has no animated cover. The still cover is the one TikTok shows in grids.
The animated cover doesn't move: Some photo apps show only the first frame of an animated WebP. Open the file in a browser to see it play.
“Video not found or unavailable”: The video is private, friends-only or deleted, so TikTok doesn't share its cover with logged-out visitors.

The cover is one still frame. The animated cover is a few seconds of the video as a looping WebP image, which TikTok uses as a moving preview on the web.

Can I download the thumbnail as a JPG?
