What the Instagram Reels Scraper API does
The Instagram Reels Scraper API reads the public Reels tab of an account and returns up to 50 reels per request with view, like and comment counts, thumbnail, shortcode, link and an approximate publish time, together with a short profile summary. It is a quick way to see which short videos perform best for a creator or a competitor. The Reels tab also lists collab reels owned by other accounts; you can spot them because owner_id differs from the profile id. The logged-out tab does not show captions, durations or video URLs: for those, pass a reel's shortcode to the single reel endpoint. A request costs 2 credits regardless of how many reels it returns.
What you get

Use cases
- Find a creator's best performing reels by view count before a sponsorship.
- Benchmark competitors' short-form output and engagement week over week.
- Detect collab reels (owner_id differs) to map which brands and creators work together.
Limitations: Unofficial API: not affiliated with or endorsed by the platform. Public data only, as a logged-out visitor sees it. Private accounts return profile fields only; posts show at most 15 newest comments; items Instagram hides from logged-out visitors are missing.
- Reels come from the profile's public Reels tab, which also lists collab reels owned by another account (owner_id differs from id).
- The logged-out Reels tab has no captions, exact publish times, durations or video URLs. taken_at is decoded from the media ID and is usually a few minutes earlier than the exact time; use instagram.reel with a reel's shortcode for full details.
- Returns 404 with PRIVATE_ACCOUNT, AGE_RESTRICTED or LOGIN_REQUIRED when the account exists but its reels are not publicly viewable.
Questions
How many reels can I get per request?
Up to 50 (default 12) from the public Reels tab. has_more tells you whether the tab contains more.
Why are captions missing?
The logged-out Reels tab does not include captions, exact publish times, durations or video URLs. Call the Instagram reel endpoint with the shortcode for full details.
What if the account is private?
You get 404 with code PRIVATE_ACCOUNT (or AGE_RESTRICTED / LOGIN_REQUIRED) because the reels are not publicly viewable.
How much does the Instagram Reels Scraper API cost?
2 credits per successful request. Credits are bought in one-time packs and never expire. New accounts get 100 free credits. No payment details needed.
Am I charged for failed requests?
No. If the platform blocks the request, it times out or something fails on our side, the credits are refunded automatically. A definitive answer such as "this account does not exist" is billed because the lookup completed.
Can I re-read a result without paying again?
Yes. Send cache_days (1 to 14) and a repeat request for the same target within that window is served from your cache for free.
