What the Instagram Profile Scraper API does
The Instagram Profile Scraper API returns the public profile of any Instagram account as JSON: username, display name, bio, the link in bio, verification and business flags, business category, profile picture in standard and HD size, and follower, following and post counts. You send a username, an @handle or a profile URL; there is no Instagram login, Meta app review or proxy setup on your side. Private accounts still return their public fields, so you can tell "private" apart from "does not exist". A lookup costs 1 credit, failed requests are refunded and repeat lookups within your cache window are free, which makes it practical to refresh large lists of creators or leads on a schedule.

Limitations: Unofficial API: not affiliated with or endorsed by the platform. Public data only, as a logged-out visitor sees it. Private accounts return profile fields only; posts show at most 15 newest comments; items Instagram hides from logged-out visitors are missing.
- Private and login-gated accounts return the public subset of fields; unavailable values are null.
- Age-restricted profiles return 404 with code AGE_RESTRICTED.
Questions
Can I look up private Instagram accounts?
You get the public fields a logged-out visitor sees (name, bio, counts, is_private: true), but never posts or followers of private accounts.
Does it return the follower list?
No. It returns follower_count, not the list of followers. Follower lists are not publicly visible without logging in.
What happens if the username does not exist?
You get 404 NOT_FOUND. The request is billed because the lookup completed, so remove the username from your list instead of retrying.
How much does the Instagram Profile Scraper API cost?
1 credit per successful request. Credits are bought in one-time packs and never expire. New accounts get 100 free credits. No payment details needed.
Am I charged for failed requests?
No. If the platform blocks the request, it times out or something fails on our side, the credits are refunded automatically. A definitive answer such as "this account does not exist" is billed because the lookup completed.
Can I re-read a result without paying again?
Yes. Send cache_days (1 to 14) and a repeat request for the same target within that window is served from your cache for free.
